Kids and I had unique experience of visiting this large carnivore
sanctuary. The organization takes in animals that have been abandoned
or rescued from homes or businesses where they didn't belong, zoos
that have closed, or abusive situations.
They care for more than ten lions, twenty tigers, ten leopards, and
many Black and Grizzly Bear, wolves, Bobcats, Mountain Lions, and
Servals. I bieve none would be able to be returned to the wild for
having lived in captivity for so long prior to being here.
When they arrive, they are given their own space adjacent to others of
their kind until they settle in and then they are placed in a family
group situation on many acres. Tigers take the longest to calm down so
the center has many single or double tiger runs. They all have time
each day in the tiger play area - neutral territory.
Costs about 6 k per annum to care for a big cat down to 4 k for each
smaller animal. Wonderful, clean, caring, no frills education center.
Not a zoo.
