Video from Jacksonville stopover

I’ve sent this video link to a few folks individually but thought I’d try it on the blog.  The link below should be good for a week or two.  If it seems to work perhaps we’ll post more video.  Saves typing…

Just north of Charleston, SC

Was pretty much a driving day today. Drove out of a blizzard in
Richmond thru NC and into a national forest north of CHarleston - Buck
Hall.

But no day would be complete without some sort of drama. Laptop took a
dive off the table after an especially big bump. It's fine but our
cell modem is wrecked. Elena and I have scoped out all AT&T stores
nearby and will see about picking up a replacemt on Monday. In the
meantime I'm on my iPhone with my right index finger so forgive the
short posts

The other drama is that the pin that holds the tow dolly "up" during
towing fell out somewhere on the trip. I kept hearing this faint metal
grinding noise each time we went over a bump and finally figured out
why. Fortunately had a spare pin fr the bike rake and jury rigged it
onto the dolly. No damage to the car but the dolly's wheel ramps
probably have a bit less paint on the ends.

Hey, it ain't a BIG trip til something expensive breaks.... And that
hasn't happened yet.

Looking for 50+ degrees and sun tmrw.

Another day in DC

We had another nice day in DC despite 3" of snowfall last night.

I finished a repair on a shower pipe fitting that must have cracked last week up in RI when the temp was in single digits. Deryl and kids did school work.

We also drove the RV over to the dump station to pick up more water and Deryl drove it back through the narrow roads of the park and backed it into the camp site without any problems. (video included as proof!)

Left camper just after lunch. This time drove into Smithsonian area; no traffic at all. Hardly any tourists either. All of the museums have been very quiet and sparsely loaded. Hit the National Archives building first and saw some really old original documents (Magna Carta from 1267 or so, Constitution and Bill of Rights, etc).

Then headed to Air & Space Museum for a good 90 minutes (that's a VERY long time as far as Isaac & Jonah are concerned!) Had to stop for a break at the cafe attached to the art museum where we had a snack and then walked up to the Spy Museum (kinda pricey but some cool things to look at).

Had an early dinner in Chinatown and then drove down to Lincoln Memorial to walk up the stairs but couldn't find any parking. So, we headed back to the camper.

Have decided to stay an extra day here in DC before heading off to Richmond. Will allow us a little more time to soak in the sights without feeling too rushed.

It's supposed to snow again...

Butterflies

Spent the day in DC. Took the Metro in instead of driving. First at the Museum of Natural History and then to the Washington Monument and then to the Museum of American History. There was a stop for ice cream in the middle somewhere...

Elena at school

We tried "school" this morning...

left Providence on Sunday afternoon, Jan 31

Here's how we looked about a minute before we pulled out and hit the highway.

Drove to Bethlehem, PA and arrived around 9PM tired but no worse for wear.

Had an all day meeting with a client while Deryl and kids played at the pool of the Courtyard that we parked at (other Ximedica employee stayed at Courtyard; we didn't just crash their pool!) [See pic below of us parked in their lot]

Drove to Greenbelt, MD after my meeting and arrived around 9:30 after a frustrating refueling experience at a TA - very slow service.

Figured out why the toilet water wasn't running. Note to self: when you see a wire with a connector just hanging around unplugged, it probably has something to do with the problem you're trying to solve!

Heading to DC to see the monuments today. They are forecasting snow. go figure...

More pix soon...
